(L-R) Trace Fleming-Smith, Shay Slaughter & Justin Johnson
The "Sexual Assault In America" show, featuring season one's Shay Slaughter, Jacksonville State University senior Justin Johnson and sexual assault counselor, Trace Fleming-Smith, presented a well balanced, well rounded discussion on the issues surrounding rape, sexual violence and sex while dating. Trace-Fleming Smith, who has worked in the sexual assault awareness field for over 10 years, expounded on the different levels of sexual behavior, sexual consent, and the circumstances surrounding situations of sexual crimes. During the show, the panel discussed the dangers of different scenarios that may evoke sexual violence such as college-oriented environments, house parties, adult mentors to children as well as on-line interaction with strangers. Justin Johnson, who brought on a male perspective to sexual assault awareness, passionately expressed the idea that men should make a conscious effort to exercise proactive measures defending the female community in regards to sexual violence while addressing that men need not to become assaulters themselves.
